“You might be sitting next to your future boss right now.”

I was in an entry level communication class my freshman year and the professor said something that really stuck with me. He said, “You might be sitting next to your future boss right now.” As I’ve gone through college and talked with and formed relationships with people in my classes, I have come to learn that some of my classmates could very well be my boss one day. That is why I’ve found it so important to network and build relationships with people in my classes and all around campus.

In an article I read about networking with your fellow college students, it gives 7 tips on how to create and strengthen your network. The tip I found most important is to get involved on campus. Before I joined PRSSA I had only met a few people on campus. After I joined, I was able to meet so many people and create so many amazing relationships. I am so grateful I took the initiative to join PRSSA because it has changed my life! This article is worth the read, check it out!

When I’m around PR people, I feel at home. So, naturally, when I walked into our first class for this New York City trip, I automatically connected with everyone. There is only 13 of us going, which makes it easy for us all to become super close. Since our first class, my connection with these 13 people has only grown. I already knew a few people going because of PRSSA, but I have been able to grow relationships with everyone else going because of different PRSSA events and activities. I have loved getting to know everyone. Even the people I already somewhat knew, I have grown closer to them. I feel like with this group, nobody is left out. We all enjoy spending time with each other and we share a common love for public relations which means, we all love to talk and network!

I love getting together and talking about what sights we want to visit together, what food we want to eat and what Broadway shows we want to see! As we have done assignments and research for our trip, I have relied on my classmates for help. We have worked together to produce our best work. I truly feel the kindness of these new friends because they support me and lift me up. Instead of keeping to themselves, they share their talents and we all help each other out and build each other up. I have not had very many situations where I feel this much support and love from classmates.

I am so grateful for not only this experience but my whole college experience for all of the relationships I have made. Because of PRSSA I have made friendships that I will cherish for a lifetime. I love these people so much!
