After a rigorous application process, an interview, and what felt like the longest day of waiting, I was accepted to be a part of UVU’s spring semester - PR field experience trip to NYC! As soon as I got the email, I called and texted everyone I know. This is a trip of a lifetime and I am over the moon excited to go! As amazing as this experience is going to be, there is a lot of work that is needed to prepare. As a class we have to meet together to research companies, plan out our days exploring NYC, do projects, and make sure that we are prepared to be professionals. The first time our class met was so exciting. We all talked about the fun sites we want to see, the broadway shows we want to go to, the New York food we want to eat, and all of the places we (I) want to shop at. We took the time in that first class to really get to know each other more. The more I get to know my classmates that are going on this trip and the more research I do on NYC the more excited I get!
But, we are not going just to play. We also get to visit PR companies and PR professionals in the industry. This is a once in a lifetime chance to make connections with PR professionals in New York City.
Here are a few of the amazing places we get to visit:
Hunter PR:
Hunter PR works with some of the most iconic brands like Amazon, Johnson & Johnson, Sour Patch Kids, Redbull, Arm & Hammer, and so many more. They love to come up with “big ideas” to grab viewers attention and gain earned media. I really like that Hunter PR focuses on knowing their audience, knowing what is relevant to their audience and using social influencers to reach their clients objectives. They focus on three specific areas of PR which are: food and beverage, home and lifestyle, and health and beauty.
I am excited to visit them to learn how they come up with these “big ideas” and what steps they take
As I was looking through their case studies I found one that I thought was so interesting… Take a look! http://www.hunterpr.com/our-work/sperry.aspx
Thatcher+Co:
Thatcher+Co is located in the heart of New York City with a balcony overlooking Time Square. If I am excited for anything, its to see that view! Thatcher+Co helps create relevant content for their clients by partnering with influencers and create campaigns to help tell their clients story. As I researched this company I learned that they actually have a presence in Salt Lake City.
911 Memorial & Museum:
If you know me, you know I cry at literally everything. If you don’t know me, then forget I said anything.. But, it is going to take me the whole semester to emotionally prepare myself for our visit to the 911 Memorial. I am not only going to see the memorial, but I get to meet with professionals at the company that make everything function. I get to understand what goes on behind the scenes of the 911 Memorial events.
LDS Public Affairs East Coast:
As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, I look forward to visiting the church’s Public Affairs office! Their main goal is to help people all around the world understand who members of the church are and what we believe. I am excited to better understand how the church uses social media platforms to change the way people think about members of the church.
I get more and more excited every time I think about getting on that plane April 8th. 41 DAYS!!!
I never would have been exposed to such amazing opportunities if it wasn't for UVU's PRSSA chapter.
