Today has been nothing short of incredible. NYC is breathtaking in an extremely overwhelming but incredibly exciting way.
My first experience on the subway was a success. Only because I was following a pack of people who know what they’re doing. But, I’m still proud! I am a typical tourist everywhere I go, it’s basically stamped on my forehead. I have taken over 500 pictures already and I’m not stoping any time soon. I am in love with this city and I already can’t wait to come back!
This morning we went to watch The Today Show and we were on TV! It was such a cool experience to watch the backstage action when the cameras stop rolling. So much goes on behind the camera, it’s mesmerizing!
Our second stop was the LDS Public Affairs office which is in the same building as the New York temple. It was such an incredible experience. The main thing that stuck out to me was the emphasis on being a great relationship builder.
Then... we went to the 9/11 memorial and museum. Growing up on the opposite side of the coast, the attack on 9/11 was distant. We always did moments of silence each year but we did not reflect on what really happened. Coming to the museum hit me in ways I was not prepared for. The damage that was done is continuing to affect lives. My heart hurts for the people affected by the event. I love being able to see something so tragic bring people together. I also love how they were able to turn the aftermath into a beautiful memorial to commemorate those who lost their lives. If you are ever in New York City, I highly recommend checking it out.
After that, we went to Wall Street. It was so cool, mainly because I’ve seen movies that have taken place there!
New York has more building than I could ever imagine. I love walking between all of the buildings and going from street to street. NYC has been an amazing experience that I will never forget.
The main thing that stuck out to me today was the importance on learning. As I near the end of my undergrad education I get sad because the "forced" learning is going to stop. But, it's now on me to be actively looking for new ways to learn. We can learn something from everyone we come in contact with. To learn, we need to listen.
