Another incredible day! Each day has been full of visits with PR agency's or in-house PR departments. I feel like there is a firehouse of information and knowledge pointed straight at my brain and I feel like like a sponge trying to absorb it all. That sounds terrifying but I love it.
Today our first stop was Hunter PR. The company's partner, Mark Newman, was so inspiring. He gave so much insight on the PR industry in NYC. He really emphasized the advantage of moving to a big city to get experience. I'm working on a pitch to give to Dal when I get home, to convince him to move to a big city.
Almost every PR professional we have met has told us to either not compare our career paths with others, or be proud of ourselves and our skill sets. As newbies to the industry we all feel less qualified or unprepared for the workforce, but we are prepared. We have so many new and fresh ideas to bring to the table.
We were able to meet with one of the biggest and best PR firms in the industry, Weber Shandwick. This company does PR for roughly 43% of the fortune 500 companies. I learned so much about the PR profession. I learned the importance of networking, the art of storytelling, the excitement of pop culture and the importance of believing in the work that you are doing.
The lessons I've learned, connections I've made, and thing's I've seen have been priceless.
Also, this group of people is like family now. I am so grateful or them, their example, their knowledge and their laughs. This trip would not have been the same without them.
